A question I love to ask clients when we’re talking about how to manage their time and priorities: “What are your top three values in life?” Some very common answers are to be a great mom, to create quality connections, and good health to have the energy to be physically, mentally and emotionally present for loved ones.
The follow-up question: “How do you spend your free time?” This is where a lot of “aha” moments happen, because so often how we spend our time doesn’t align with our values, and isn’t breathing vitality into our lives.
The closer you can have your values overlap with your actions, the more aligned you’ll be in your life. This is true in all aspects of life, and I find it especially true when it comes to wellness.
The goal is not to be perfect, but to consistently find little moments to take action in the right direction. Small food swaps, a tiny workout, putting your phone aside to be present with your family, or waking up ten minutes early to have a moment with yourself before the chaos of the day sets in. The changes truly come in these small, tiny moments.
And figuring out how to incorporate more of these moments into your day is an area that I love to help clients navigate. Yes, we focus on evidence-based nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, hydration and sleep. We also go deeper to make sure we’re taking a holistic approach to you and your health, so you're living a life that aligns with your values.
It’s not rocket science, but it does take commitment, accountability and action. And just like so many other areas of our lives, sometimes we just need a little bit of guidance. I love seeing women thrive, and I love supporting women throughout their transition into motherhood. It’s such a beautiful, vulnerable, raw, transformative experience, and women aren’t given enough support during this time. I don’t want women to feel like they’re just surviving (though some days that’s all you can do). I want you to thrive, and that starts with embodying your values on a regular basis.
